This tale is a story dealing with the Ako incident which occurred in 1703.

Yoshio “Kouzukenosuke” KIRA whose important post of the Edo Shogunate this incident suited those days in 1701, and the Ako clan -- a daimyo's main Naganori “Takuminokami” ASANO stem from the trouble of Emperor's entertainment event, and Naganori ASANO will cut to Yoshio KIRA in Edo castle, and will inflict an injury.
As a result, while Naganori ASANO could order hara-kiri from the government and also the Asano family was severed, there was no reproof in Yoshio KIRA.
By this, the vassals of the Asano family promised revenge, 47 persons raided the mansion of Yoshio KIRA vassal all members of the Asano family in January (Japan Genroku Dec. 14th 15), 1703, and it murdered Yoshio KIRA.

The vassals of the Asano family who achieved revenge sent the head of Yoshio KIRA to temple of Sengakuji in Shiba Takanawa where Naganori ASANO which is a master sleeps.

They followed arrest of the Edo Shogunate while reporting having made revenge successful in front of the grave.And as for the arrested vassals, all the members were able to order hara-kiri.

The tale to which these occurrences added various dramatizations after that by many public sympathizing was made.These tales are generically called "Cyushin-gura (collection of faithful retainer's tale)", and it is a tale in which the present age is also widely loved by people through the stage, a movie, a song, etc.

As for "KANZAKI YOGOROU AZUMA-KUDARI", Yogorou KANZAKI which is a vassal of the Asano family serves as a hero.

Yogorou KANZAKI meets pack-horse man in the mountain in Hakone which goes to Edo from Ako("AZUMA-KUDARI" means "way down east"). However, before the big mission of revenge, KANZAKI repeats patience, passes a letter of apology and money to Ushigorou which is pack-horse man, and gets out of difficulty.

Yogorou KANZAKI which arrived at safety after that at Edo drives a name as one of 47 persons who participates in a raid.And Ushigorou which heard the rumor is a tale in which it becomes a grave keeper of Sengaku-ji temple, after it repents an own fault and Yogorou KANZAKI commits hara-kiri.

Thus, Cyushin-gura consists of many substories also including the enemy and ally which were involved in the incident.Each tale is a tale in which the popularity which can be being performed in various forms, such as a movie, not only the stage but a naniwa-bushi reciting, storytelling, Kawachi ondo, is high.
